|
This medal commemorates the murder of Sir Edmundbury Godfrey in 1678 (Eimer 257). On the reverse is a postrate figure of a man being strangled while the Pope, holding a decree or Bulla is watching on. Sir Edmundbury Godfrey was a judge hearing the deposition of Titus Oates and was considered to have worked against the schemes of the papal party.
