JAB-38 1874 MASONIC MEDAL Brass
|
27mm - 5 struck
The dies were cut in 1874 per order of George D. Rollins, the "Tyler" or Doorkeeper for the Lodge. The obverse die cracked during use. Both dies are currently unaccounted for. The Masonic Temple pictured was damaged by fire on February 9, 1891, deemed unsafe, and torn down.
The piece pictured was obtained in the 1982 sale of the NYC Public Library. It is the only example I have ever seen offered for sale. A very rare variety that will difficult to acquire in any condition.
