JAB-22 MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL MEDAL Copper
|
28mm - 14 struck by Bolen
The dies were cut in 1866 and sold to Kline. The obverse die recently appeared in a Sept. 2010 stacks auction, lot 6249.
Bolen struck 14 examples in copper. Kline also struck a few examples in this metal. It is fairly easy to tell the restrikes from the originals. The originals are 2.2 to 3.0 mm thick. The restrikes are only 1.5 to 2.0 mm in thickness. The example pictured is 2.0mm thick.
A Choice Uncirculated piece with nice toning sold for $870 in a January 2011 Stacks auction, lot 6609. A NGC-55 example sold for $690 in a January 2013 EBAY auction by CWTGUY.
