British Historical Medals 1837-1901 by Laurence Brown. BHM#1885 ROYAL SOCIETY PRIZE MEDAL. The medal itself, in Copper, is considered "R" Rare.

It is interesting to note that in a footnote to the BHM description is the following. "The author has noted an obverse cliche' of this piece in a private collection." We refer to an item such as this as a Trial strike.
