The "Gentlemans Magazine" 1840 ,Vol1 p. 6443 records for 20 may 1840 " The fire started at quarter of nine in the evening , by half past twelve the flames had subsided. The roof of the nave was destroyed in the fire and was subsequently rebuilt by Sydney Smirke.
